Ageing Agelessly

This past December I had the pleasure of running with Dr. Betty Smith, a 72 year-old ultra marathon runner.  Betty recently completed 100 miles in a 72-hour race.  She has spent the last 40 years researching and implementing healthier eating and exercise habits.  She defies her age and what it means to be 72.

Connie Bowman, a boot camp student, recently interviewed Betty for her Happy Healthy You podcast.  When Betty was in her 20’s and 30’s she was an overweight smoker.  She tried fad diets and pills but nothing worked for her.  Finally she decided that she was ready for lasting change.  Her love for her daughter and wanting to see her daughter grow up inspired her to make it happen.  In the podcast link below, Betty talks about developing inner fortitude and how to pull from past successes to develop strength to make permanent lifestyle changes.

It is hard to believe that Betty was once overweight. When she talks about “developing inner fortitude and how to pull from past successes to develop strength to make permanent lifestyle changes”, she touches my heart and gives me such encouragement!
