Easy Dal

This Dal is easy to make, light yet filling, and tasty! This recipe can be made on the stove top or in an instant pot. Directions for both are below.

Easy Dal (from Raw Till Whenever)

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups red lentils
  • 6 cups water
  • 1 red or yellow bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 red onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced (can also use 1/2 tsp ground ginger)
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • juice 1/2 lemon
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp curry powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper

Stove Top Directions:

  1. Place all your ingredients in a large pot and bring to a boil on the stove.
  2. Once boiling cover and reduce heat to low.
  3. Simmer for 30 minutes or until the dal has thickened.
  4. Serve with brown rice and a sprinkle of cilantro on top.

Instant Pot Directions:

  1. Place all your ingredients in the instant pot, turn the vent to sealed and cook on manual for 18 minutes.
  2. Once it is finished cooking, let it naturally release for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Serve with brown rice and a sprinkle of cilantro on top.
